Remote sensing for classification of new wilderness vegetation in the hinterland of Kutná Hora
Dančejová, Daniela ; Kupková, Lucie (advisor) ; Červená, Lucie (referee)
Numerous areas in the Czech landscape have been abandoned by human activity, allowing natural processes to take over. Some of these areas have transformed into new wilderness characterized by diverse vegetation compositions, representing va- rious successional stages. The aim of this work is to conduct a comprehensive and accurate classification of vegetation in the new wilderness area utilizing remote sensing techniques. For this purpose, multispectral UAS data with a 5 cm spatial resolution, hyperspectral aerial data with a 60 cm spatial resolution, and botani- cal data collected at three different dates within the area of interest were used. Based on the collected data and the assessment of species separability, three clas- sification legends were proposed to classify the area of interest using Maximum Likelihood, Random Forest and object-based classifiers. The F1-score was used to assess the classification accuracy of vegetation classes. The results demonstrated the suitability of the object classifier for classifying a highly diverse vegetational area at a very high spatial resolution (achieving the highest overall accuracy of 84.06% across 22 classes). The Random Forest classifier yielded better results for vegetation classification on hyperspectral data with a lower spatial resolution...
Post- cultural town: urban wilderness in shrinking Vimperk
Singer, Kateřina
607 urban structures labelled with a city status were registered in the Czech Republic in 2019. 187 of them experienced a population decline of more than 3% between 2009 and 2019. The project presents a former important Golden Path centre, South Bohemian town of Vimperk, with a decrease of 5.9%, also showing other signs of a shrinking city in the post-revolutionary period. The study investigates one of the consequences of the process of shrinkage, gaps in the urban structure. A mosaic of indeterminate neglected spaces in various stages of decay are absorbed by the urban wilderness. The research explores the return of the landscape element to the forgotten places of the built environment and the symbiosis of this new urban landscape and local residents. Based on a personal analysis and discussions with local experts, the research identifies, documents and then subjectively evaluates 30 forgotten places. The criteria are historical and cultural value, overall character of the location, location in relation to the town, owner’s interest, technical condition and current operation. A scenario and a level of management are proposed for the selected locations, underlining the respect of the new wilderness and the birth of the post-cultural town. The popularisation of research results changes the perspective on neglected or negatively perceived outbreaks of natural life within the cultural landscape. The question remains how the new landscape will change the town planning strategy of non-growing or shrinking towns in general.
Land use change in the Cheb area - new wilderness
Pekárková, Hana ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The theses deals with exploration of new wilderness which comes into being in abandoned areas in border regions in the Cheb district. Using the newly defined transformation index, two cadastral territories in the district were identified with the highest probability of new wilderness occurence. The occurrence of a new wilderness was demonstrated in both cadastral areas and was categorized into typology already established. Photographs and ArcGis maps were added to the field survey. Post-habitat and post-agrarian new wilderness were identified in both cadastral territories. Further, there were identified post-montane and post-aquatic new wilderness. Despite the position near the border, where the Iron Curtain was located, post- military new wilderness was not identified there. New wilderness occurs in both localities on more than 10 % of area. Krajinářská studie vybraného území

The study is focused on the topic of the new wilderness. The work deals with wider context of the apperarance of this type of vegetation in today's landscape. It also describes some of its ecological characteristics and the forms of perception. Indiviual types of new wilderness vegetation are set and located in the area of the city of Brno and examined during the terrain survey. Vegetation of this types is analysed as well as their perceptional character. The original questionnaire is created for evaluation of the visual preferences of the public. On its base the potential and also problematic aspects of the new wilderness are defined. Second part of the work consists of basic landscape analysis of the model area Pod Hády in the north-east part of the city of Brno. It is a landscape on the transition of urbanised space and its natural surroundings. The decline of intensive land-use, continuous overgrowing with spontaneous vegetation, but also intensive recreational usage of people living nearby is typical for it. The propositions for the model area are defined on the basis of various landscape analyses, theoretical findings and findings gained via questionnaire. The main concern of the proposal is to enhance the passableness and recreational functions of the area. A smaller space of the former sludge lagoon is chosen for detailed design. It is converted to forest park with the usage of new wilderness parts in its composition.
Changes in land cover and landscape use in the former military training area Ralsko after 1990
Tvrzník, Lukáš ; Lipský, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Romportl, Dušan (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the change of the landscape cover and the use of the landscape of the former Ralsko military training area after 1990. The former VVP Ralsko is located on the area of 250 km2 between Česká Lípa, Stráží pod Ralskem and Mnichovo Hradištěm. Most of its territory lies in the Liberec region and only its southern part reaches the Central Bohemian region. After the departure of the Soviet troops in 1991, the military training area was abolished and on 1 January 1992 the village of Ralsko, which currently has 171 km2 , was formed by merging nine municipalities in its former territory. The town of Ralsko is thus an area with the largest area in the Czech Republic. Between 1993 and 2004, the former military area was decontaminated, during which more than 120,000 pieces of ammunition were found and destroyed. Decontamination of contaminated soils and groundwater is ongoing. Some former military buildings are currently commercially used as warehouses for raw materials. The Military Airport at Hradčany is partly used for sports purposes, and a range of rare game species has been set up in the area of the Židlov tank space, of which the most interesting is the European Tooth (Bison bonasus). In the first part of the thesis there is a search of specialized literature dealing with...
New wilderness and its theoretical context on the example of Rohan island
Hořejší, Johana ; Hladký, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Nohejlová Zemková, Michaela (referee)
New wilderness is a term denoting a particular kind of environment which is considerably modified by human activity and then abandoned. These places are left to their own development defined mostly by natural processes. This work describes the phenomenon of new wilderness both in Czech and international context. It attempts to capture not only the general nature of new wilderness but also to point out various features which are provoked by its character. Subsequently it discusses the theory of Umwelt by Jakob von Uexküll describing the relation of individual to the world and treating the space as perceived individually. Second part of this work is dedicated to concrete example of new wilderness - Rohan island in Prague. It summarizes its history and natural conditions. The concepts of Umwelt and heterotopia are then applied to this locality. The two theories in question, conceiving space in a specific way, develop further the complexity and richness of the phenomenon of new wilderness.
